‘Uncharted territory’: Guelph-Eramosa cancels council, committee meetings until April

BRUCEDALE – Guelph-Eramosa Township has closed its municipal office and cancelled council and committee meetings for the rest of the month in its response to COVID-19.

“Council will continue to monitor the situation closely,” stated Guelph-Eramosa Mayor Chris White in a March 16 press release.

“As we are in uncharted territory, we will seek guidance from health care professionals and other levels of government. We will work together to get through this.”

He added the township’s first priority “is the safety of our residents and staff.”

As a result, the township also announced the following, effective immediately:

  • all township facilities are closed and events and events are cancelled;
  • all recreational facilities, including the Royal Distributing Athletic Centre, are closed and associated programming cancelled;
  • Marden Community Centre and the Rockmosa Community Centre are closed and  programming and rentals cancelled;
  • Rockmosa Older Adult Centre closed and programming cancelled.

Officials say staff will be in the buildings and are available via phone and email to assist residents, but all non-essential in-person are suspended.

Although council and committee meetings are cancelled, White stated, “Should the need arise, the mayor may call a special meeting of council to address any pressing matters.”
