Members of the Great Lakes Truck Club presented the Clifford Rotary Club with a cheque for $3,000 at their meeting recently at the Community Hall in Clifford.
Great Lakes Truck Club past president Chris Hall introduced president Matt Henderson, vice-president Bob Ireland, and truck show co-organizer Verdun Zurbrigg to Rotary president Bruce Kaufman and a dozen Rotarians.
Chris Hall remarked the club hosted a successful truck show in Clifford in July with 300 rigs on site.
“We are glad the Rotary Club had a banner year with the food booth during the show. With all the work the Rotarians put into the Rotary Pavilion and washrooms, soccer field, and ball field, we hope the donation would go towards the park.” Hall shared that after six years, the club may re-name the Antique and Classic Truck Show to the Clifford Old Truck Reunion further promoting the idea of a vintage show with a featured truck brand and a few new rigs. The truck show is the largest show of its kind in Canada drawing on truck drivers from Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, and the upper States. The drivers arrive on Thursday and don’t leave until Sunday morning. The truck club is committed to their needs and requested extending the hours for catering. The club also requesting a hydro line extended into the park to allow for more lighting and speakers. A proposal will need to be submitted to the Town of Minto, it was noted.
Henderson expressed his appreciation stating, “Thanks to all of you. You have helped to make our shows a success.”
Kaufman offered thanks and assured Henderson the money will go into a fund for the betterment of the park.
