Township to release weekly videos in celebration of parks and recreation month

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – This year, for parks and recreation month, the townships parks and recreation department will be releasing a series of videos each week through the month of June to inform residents about how the department contributes to the community.

Each week of June, the parks and recreation department will be releasing one to two informational videos.

The videos will be uploaded and will be available through the town’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

Parks and recreation administrative assistant Kristen Chiasson explained each week will have a different theme. The themes include GET Informed, GET Active, GET Involved and GET Exploring.

The first week will include two videos for GET Informed. The first video will feature the director of parks and recreation Robin Milne speaking on what the department does. The second video will include field staff cutting grass, fixing things and maintaining the parks.

“Often times people aren’t 100 per cent sure what the parks department does and we do a lot for the community and sometimes it’s nice to remind people,” Chiasson said.

“Especially with COVID we’ve done a whole lot prepping the parks and getting them ready, looking after the trees and maintaining the grass,” she added. “It’s just to inform people what the parks department does.

“The biggest part that we’re most excited about is to kind of showcase the little things that people don’t realize the parks department actually does and looks after in the community and to give people an idea of the events the parks department runs.”

Chiasson said while the town wishes it could do things in person, it decided to err on the side of caution and do it virtually, adding she hopes in-person events will be possible later in the summer.

Virtual fitness classes

The parks and recreation department will also be offering free virtual fitness class throughout the month of June.

Starting June 8 at 6pm, the community can attend DDP Yoga with Marcel Dore and on June 9 at 3pm, Total Body Fit with Hilary Balaban will be available.  For more information and details on how to register, visit https://www.get.on.ca/community-better-challenge.
