Town approves funding agreement for Minto Pines well, pump

MINTO – A new well and pump for a rural subdivision here will be installed with the assistance of federal and provincial funding.

The Town of Minto applied to the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program – Green Stream in September 2021 for funding to assist with the replacement of the Minto Pines well and submersible pump.

Provincial approval for the funding was received in January and federal approval was received on March 2.

At the Aug. 9 meeting, council authorized signature of an agreement confirming the eligible expenditures of the project to be $201,250 with the province providing 33% ($67,077) of the funding and the federal government providing 40% ($80,500).

The town is responsible for the remaining 27% or $53,673 and any cost overages above the estimates.

A report from treasurer Gordon duff explains the agreement will allow funding to begin to flow for the project on a claims basis.

The town is responsible for paying costs upfront and submitting bills for partial reimbursement.

The project was included in the 2022 capital budget.

Deputy mayor Dave Turton asked about the timing of the work.

“Ideally I would like to have it done in the fall … if doesn’t happen in the fall, certainly in the spring,” said water services manager Todd Rogers.

“A lot’s going to depend on when we get the tender out, availability … a lot of stuff.”

“If you get the tender out you get a guarantee on price and if we do it in the spring, it’s no big deal,” Turton commented.

“That’s what we’re hoping,” said Rogers.
