The Merchant of Venice to be performed at Bissel Park

ELORA – Elora Community Theatre is offering its sixth season of Shakespeare in the Park.

This year The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare will be performed at Bissell Park, Elora and is directed by Deb Stanson and David Tanner.

The Merchant of Venice is one of Shakespeare’s darkest comedies.

The romantic story of a young man, Bassanio, who has squandered his fortune and must borrow money to woo the wealthy lady he loves is set against the more disturbing story of the Jewish moneylender Shylock and his demand for the “pound of flesh” owed him by the Venetian merchant, Antonio.

Here pathos and farce combine with romantic entanglement to display the extraordinary power and range of Shakespeare at his best.

The Merchant of Venice will be performed outdoors at Bissell Park, Elora,  from July 5 to 7 and July 12 to 14.

Performances:

Friday performances are  at 7pm, Saturdays are at 3pm and 7pm and Sundays are 3pm.

Admission is by donation at the end of the play.

Viewers are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets.
