Take a Kid Fishing Day runs May 8 at Lake Belwood

The annual Take a Kid Fishing day will be held again this year at the GRCA’s park at Lake Belwood – and once again this year, it is free.

The day is designed to get new anglers involved in fishing and improve their skills. The event is designed for children from ages 8 to 14 and their parents. Kids will learn how to cast, rig lures, tie flies, identify various fish species and their habitats, and how to find and catch more fish.

The event is free for registered participants but park entry fees ($2.50 children and $4.50 for adults) apply. There is also a free barbecue lunch.

Organizer Derek Strub said the event is usually full, but he has about 100 spaces left this year, about half of the registration. Participants must be supervised by a parent or guardian. For more information or to register a child, contact Belwood Lake Conservation Arutes at 519-843-2979, or email dstrub@grandriver.ca.
