Storm closes Elora-Cataract Trailway, GRCA nature areas

WELLINGTON COUNTY – A deadly storm that ripped through the province on May 21 has caused “significant damage” to trees in several Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) nature spaces and trails throughout the watershed.

A GRCA press release states the following areas have been closed as a result of the damage:

  • all “rail trails” including the Elora-Cataract Trailway;
  • Dumfries, Snyder’s Flats, FWR Dickson/Bannister Lake, and Starkey Hill natural areas; and
  • Pinehurst Lake Conservation Area.

As of Tuesday morning, GRCA staff were working to gain a full understanding of the storm’s impact, according to GRCA spokesperson Cam Linwood.

“Until our staff have had an opportunity to assess the impact on each property, a timeline on reopening GRCA natural areas and trails cannot be determined and these properties will remain closed for an undetermined period of time,” Linwood said.
