Steve Revell named Erin”™s Citizen of the Year

A respected local environmentalist and historian was posthumously named Citizen of the Year at the Celebrate Erin awards evening on April 12.

The late Steve Revell was recognized for his lifetime of hard work on many local committees and events. Revell, who passed away on Aug. 26, 2013, enjoyed a 32-year teaching career at Alloa and Caledon Central Public Schools.

He was active in environmentalist causes, including local trails, and was a volunteer with East Wellington Community Services (EWCS). In 2007 he authored A Brief History of Erin Village.

“He was one of our favourite environmentalists and historians. He is greatly missed but will never be forgotten,” states the town on its website.

This year’s Celebrate Erin, held at Centre 2000, was a great success, organizers state.

“The evening was fun and wonderful. It was all about the volunteers,” Connie Cox, executive assistant with the Town of Erin, said in email to the Advertiser.

The Shamrock Awards for Citizenship and Outstanding Community Service were presented at the meeting to:

– Rachel Ingram for her work with East Wellington Family Health Team and EWCS;

– Ted Forrest for his work with ARC Industries and the Erin physio-fitness wheelchair bicycles;

– Mary Smith for her work at EWCS’ New To You Store and seniors’ adult day program;

– Elinor Fuller for her work with EWCS, as food bank coordinator and the seniors’ adult day program;
