Staff mileage will increase to 50 cents/km

Councillors here have agreed to increase staff mileage rates to partially compensate for increased gasoline costs.

On Monday night, council agreed to that recommendation made by its building and property department.

Councillor Dan Yake was opposed to the move, not on the merit of the idea, but with the timing.

He believes a change such as this should happen at budget time, and not midway through the year.

Councillor Ross Chaulk used the argument that gasoline costs have escalated significantly since January.

“We’re just trying to be fair to our employees.”

Mayor Mike Broomhead agreed that the cost of gas is what instigated the resolution.
