The Special Investigations Unit has cleared police here of any wrongdoing in connection with a homicide and suicide that occurred here on April 30.
A a 9-1-1 emergency call was made to the Guelph Police Service (GPS) for a disturbance at a business at 199 Alice Street. Inspector Garry Male, of Investigative Support Services, reported police were called about two people suffering from stab wounds. Police determined a third male had fled to his residence on the same property.
The injured parties were taken to the Guelph General Hospital by ambulance, where 58-year-old Roger Lamoureux, of Guelph, died of his injuries. The second man, from Cambridge, was treated and released. Officers contained the residence where the suspect was believed to be. All attempts to engage the suspect were unsuccessful and police entered the residence and discovered the 45-year-old suspect deceased. A post mortem determined the cause of death was a self-inflicted single gunshot wound.
The SIU was notified and investigated. The SIU determined there was no evidence any officer had contributed to the death of the suspect or any wrongdoing.
The circumstances related to the death of Mr. Lamoureux were investigated by the Investigative Support Services Division, which determined the parties in the incident were familiar with one another and the original dispute is believed to be related to a disagreement over rent money and a vehicle.
Police have determined there were no other persons directly involved in this incident or responsible for any of the injuries or deaths.
