Ryan Giddy memorial tourney runs Aug. 23

The Ryan Giddy Memorial Golf Tournament for Camp Quality is fast approaching.

It has been because of generous donations for less fortunate children that organizers have been able to raise over $63,000 for the very worthwhile cause.

Camp Quality is a non-profit, volunteer organization that, in addition to its signature, week-long camping experience, provides year-round support for children with cancer (receiving treatment or in remission) and their families.

Its program provides children with the opportunity to try new and familiar activities, make new friends and gain memories that will last forever.

Camp Quality also encompasses a Puppet Program where life-size puppets visit elementary schools to encourage sensitivity about cancer and its effects.

Tournament chairman Steve Pinchin said that a few years ago he personally went to the camp to present the cheque. “I wish you could have been there to see the smiles on the faces of these kids that fight an ongoing battle everyday.”

This year’s golf tournament will be held at Wildwinds Golf Course on Aug. 23 with a shotgun start at 12:30pm. The scramble format tournament will be followed by auction. There are many ways people can participate in this tournament:

– as a golfer, at $100 a person or $400 per team, which includes golf, cart, and dinner;

– make a corporate or personal donation;

– sponsor a hole at $100. The company’s sign will be displayed on the tee of choice, as well as be mentioned throughout the day; or

– donate a prize to the auction or door prizes..

Cheques made out to Optimist Club of Centre Wellington in Fergus.
