Rockwood paving deferred to next year

BRUCEDALE – Guelph-Eramosa council has deferred two road projects until next year after bids for the work came in “significantly over budget,” according to public works director Harry Niemi.

His report to council on Sept. 3 recommended the resurfacing of Church Street and Guelph Street in Rockwood be delayed.

Each of the small projects were estimated to cost less than $50,000, but bids solicited from local contractors were over $50,000, which is the maximum for informal quotations.

Niemi said the main reason for the high bids was quotations were requested in mid-summer.

Next steps

All design work and specifications are ready, and the project could be advertised in late winter or early spring, which is projected to enable a lower overall cost.
