River Run Centre announced its 2009-2010 season during on June 17.
The season has a broad range of music, comedy, family shows, theatre and dance.
“My goal was to present a high calibre professional program that would appeal to a wide variety of tastes,” said Colleen Clack.
Clack also announced the renewed commitments of The Co-operators as the lead season sponsor for 2009-2010 and Meridian Credit Union as sponsor of River Run’s volunteer program.
World-class musical impressionist and comedian André-Philippe Gagnon opens the season and the Sleeman Comedy Series on Oct. 8. The series brings some of North America’s best stand-up, sketch, improvisational, and musical comedians, continues with The Second City on Nov. 14, Adam Growe on Jan. 16, and The Blackmont Capital Music and More features a line-up of Canadian and international talents. The series opens on Oct. 9 with virtuoso fiddlers and family duo Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy, and continues on Oct. 17 with popular storyteller and radio host Stuart McLean. The Afro-Cuban All Stars make a stop on Oct. 23, and John McDermott returns on Dec. 1. The Amazing Kreskin shares his mentalist talents on Dec. 20, The Piano Men, starring Jim Witter follows on Jan. 15, and Canadian country star Deric Ruttan performs on Feb. 6. The series continues on Feb. 12 with Pavlo, Rik Emmett, and Oscar Lopez in a triple bill; Molly Johnson will sing on Feb. 20, and Lunch at Allen’s will be back on April 30 to complete the series.
The Classical Arts and Dance series has seven performances.
It begins on Oct. 25 with the World War II drama, Jake’s Gift, followed on Nov. 13 by world-renowned guitarists for International Guitar Night. Coleman Lemieux and Compagnie dancers will perform works by James Kudelka on Jan. 29, and Canadian Brass will play on February 5.
The story of King Lear will be told through the eyes of the King’s Fool on March 11 in Nearly Lear, followed by Dancetheatre David Earle on April 8. Ballet Jörgen Canada will close the series on May 1 with Cinderella.
The Family Series offers opportunities for parents and children. Jack Grunsky will open on Nov. 8, followed by the magic show Outerbridge – Magical Moments in Time on Jan. 9.
Dufflebag Theatre will present Peter Pan on Feb. 21, and Dorothy the Dinosaur from the children’s show The Wiggles, will conclude the series on April 15.
Two additional series in the intimate Co-operator’s Hall will round out the season. The Borealis Music Series is a Friday-night series featuring musicians from across Canada in headline performances.
And River Run will present a series of three Saturday morning performances sponsored by The Woolwich Arrow, Geared for children ages three months to 4 years.
