Review to clarify lease agreement with Mount Forest society

Wellington North is reviewing its lease agreements with the Arthur and Mount Forest Agriculture Society – but it is the one with Mount Forest that needs immediate clarifying.

A need to review of the agreements came about in information presented to council on March 7. Councillor Andy Lennox asked what the issue is with the society leases, and if the agreements are annual renewals.

Sherry Burke, who chairs the recreation committee, explained there were questions related to the usage of the facilities in Mount Forest.

She said the agreement is out of date and needs to be reviewed.

In the past, the fairgrounds and the Mount Forest arena were at the same location. The agreement would have covered use of the grounds and community hall.

In recent years, the arena and community hall were leased to Mount Forest Victory Church, following construction of a new arena on the west side of town.

Burke said there is some confusion which facilities they get, and over which time frame.

“The Arthur Agricultural Society agreement is still good,” Burke added.
