Remembrance service held in Clifford on Nov. 8

Rev. Jennifer Mountain of the Knox and Alsfeldt United Churches shared a message of admiration, truth and humility during the remembrance service on No. 8 at the cenotaph and Community Hall in Clifford.

The Colour Party (Will Neil, Sharon McKnight, Linda Sinclair and Olive Mock)and Legion members from Harriston Legion Branch 296 were led to the cenotaph by Sergeant at Arms Ron Faulkner followed by Clifford firefighters, dignitaries and townspeople.

After the singing of O’Canada, trumpeter Judy Dirksen sounded the Last Post and signaled the end of the two minutes of silence with Reveille.

Legion president Ken Reuber repeated the ‘Act of Remembrance’ with a crowd response, “We will remember them.”

The Colour Party also led the march to the community centre for the next service and the laying of community wreaths.

Wellington County Warden and Town of Minto Mayor George Bridge said he felt humbled to honour the soldiers. He paid tribute to local Rotarians for updating the cenotaph and said he is anxious to see the newly-planted tulip bulbs bloom this spring.
