WELLINGTON COUNTY – Linda Redmond, Wellington County’s manager of planning and environment, has retired after 17 years with the municipality.
Redmond joined the county’s planning and development department as a planner in 2004. She advanced to senior planner, and in 2017 became manager of planning and environment.
She worked with the county planning and land division committee on many projects and development files over the years, and worked closely with the councils and staff of Mapleton, Wellington North and Minto.
In addition to her responsibilities in the area of land use planning, Redmond managed the county’s forest conservation officers, county forest tracts, the Green Legacy program, chaired the Rural Water Quality program, and was instrumental in the formation of the new climate change portfolio at the county.
“Linda also successfully mentored many young planners that have come to the planning department,” stated director of planning and development Aldo Salis.
“During her almost 17 years with the county, Linda has always demonstrated dedication and professionalism.”
At the March 25 county council meeting, the last she would attend as a staff member, several councillors recognized Redmond’s years of service.
“I have really enjoyed working with Linda,” said councillor Mary Lloyd.
“Best of luck … We’ll miss you at the county I’m sure,” said councillor Jeff Duncan.
“I wanted to thank you for all the years of service to Wellington County … thanks so much for all the years,” said Warden Kelly Linton, who led councillors in a round of applause for Redmond during the videoconference meeting.
Redmond said wirking for the county “has been a source of pride for me and I’m just happy that you let me do that and serve the public because that’s … our biggest job as municipal workers, as government workers, is to serve – and the county does that well.”
Linton replied, “It’s really impactful for us to hear somebody say that about their time at the county. It means that we’re doing something right here.”
