Recreation director Dave Stonley retires from Town of Minto

Director of Recreation Dave Stonley has taken retirement from the town effective Feb. 25.

Stonley came into the position in 2003.

Minto councillor Dave Turton,  chairman of the town’s parks and recreation advisory committee, expressed council’s gratitude to Stonley.

“Over the last seven or eight years, Dave has built Minto’s recreation facilities and activities into the envy of most small towns. Our facilities are in better repair than in 2003. With Dave’s support, our volunteer groups have mounted a variety of special events and festivals.  The municipal alcohol policy is truly a ground-breaking innovation and we get calls on it from other municipalities all the time.”

Mayor George Bridge outlined how recreation activities would be managed in the future.

Matt Lubbers has assumed the position of Manager of Recreation Services.

Al Carr, as Manager of Facilities, will oversee all of the town’s recreation and cultural facilities. Belinda Wick-Graham, the Manager of Business and Economic Development, will continue her role in the town’s cultural and tourism promotion, marketing, and special events.

Bridge said, “To me, Dave’s greatest achievement is the fact that he has recruited, encouraged and trained a core of good young leadership in Minto. Town council and staff are sad to see him go.

“But we respect his choice. Council shares Dave’s hope that retirement will help him to regain his good health. We hope to see him again from time to time.”

Stonley’s retirement plans include a move back to northern Ontario where he was raised.
