Reading Rocks registration open

GUELPH – Registration is now open for the Reading Rocks program.

The free eight-week one-on-one literacy program supports children’s literacy skills in the areas of phonics, fluency and sight words.

Children are matched with a trained tutor who adapts a poster board workstation and literacy program according to the child’s specific needs.

It is funded through a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

The program is also in need of volunteers.

Reading Rocks is aimed at children aged 6 to 12, who have a learning disability or who are struggling readers.

The program takes place at:

– St. James Catholic High School in Guelph on Monday and Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30pm (begins Sept. 30);

– Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30pm (begins Oct. 1); and

– The Wellington County Learning Centre in Arthur on Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 7pm (begins Oct. 1).

Space is limited, and is dependent on volunteer recruitment.

Registration is based on suitability and by time and date.

Participants will receive an email indicating the status of the application.

Questions can be emailed to LDAWCRR@gmail.com or called to 519-837-6075.
