GUELPH – A Puslinch man has been arrested and charged in connection with a crash during a street race that left one person injured.
On May 15 at about 8:13pm, the drivers of a white Cadillac and dark-coloured BMW engaged in a street race on Quebec and Woolwich Streets, Guelph Police officials say.
Near Powell Street, “the Cadillac drove into the southbound lane while still driving north,” police stated in a press release. “The Cadillac collided with a southbound Volkswagen, demolishing both vehicles. Two parked vehicles were also hit. A second southbound motor vehicle swerved to avoid the collision and hit a third parked vehicle.”
A female teenager in the Volkswagen was taken to Guelph General Hospital and then later transported to a Hamilton trauma centre for abdominal surgery. She continues to recover in hospital.
The driver and a passenger in the Cadillac were arrested at the scene for driving and drug offences. The BMW fled the scene. On May 21 police arrested a 19-year-old Puslinchman and seized a 2010 BMW from his residence. He is charged with dangerous driving causing bodily harm, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, failing to remain at a collision involving bodily harm and racing a motor vehicle. He was held for a bail hearing on May 22.
