Province grants $60,000 to Elora Festival

The Elora Festival will receive more than $60,000 from Ontario to help expand programming, attract more visitors, and boost the local economy, Tourism Minister Peter Fonseca announced last week.

The Elora Festival is one of 90 across the province that will receive funding through Celebrate Ontario, launched in 2006 to support the growth of festi-vals and events. The Elora Festival runs from July 11 to Aug. 3 this year. The provincial government has doubled its investment in Celebrate Ontario 2008 to $10-million this year.

Other nearby areas also received funding.

Three festivals in Grey, Bruce, and Owen Sound received a total of more than $100,000.

They include:

– the Electric Eclectics Festival, which runs from June 20 to Aug. 3;

– the Festival of Northern Lights, which runs from Nov. 14 to Jan. 4; and

– the International Plowing Match, which runs from Sept. 16 to 20 in Teeswater, in Bruce County, this year.

They are among 90 festivals and events across the province that will receive funding through Celebrate Ontario, launched in 2006 to support the growth of festivals and events.
