With big snowfalls, homeowners are struggling to find areas for snow when clearing driveways and sidewalks.
Twice within the past week, county OPP officers spoke with homeowners who were pushing snow back onto the road,, said OPP Constable Mark Cloes.
He said county and township personnel have been working tirelessly to clear the roads. The last thing an unsuspecting driver needs when driving down the road, thinking all has been cleared is coming upon a large pile at the end of a driveway. Striking that snow may cause the driver to lose control and veer off the road or even into oncoming traffic.
Cloes said police remind people that under the Highway Traffic Act it is against the law to shovel snow back onto the road, and if charged, the culprit may pay a ticket for $110.
Section 181 of the Highway Traffic Act states no person shall deposit snow or ice on a roadway without permission in writing to do so from the ministry or the road authority responsible for the maintenance of the road.
Police are asking people to help them keep the roads safe by keeping snow off the roads.
