Police investigating homicide at Maple Leaf Acres near Belwood

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Police are investigating a homicide in the Maple Leaf Acres mobile home park here, near Belwood.

Wellington County OPP officers responded to an address on Poplar Place in the park on July 1 at about 11:30am.

Police say they were there to check on the well being of the occupant but when officers entered the home they “located a deceased male.”

A post mortem examination confirmed the man died as a result of homicide and police say they already have a man in custody.

“Police believe that this incident was isolated in nature, and a risk to public safety has not been identified,” states the July 2 OPP press release.

The Wellington County OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, is investigating the death along with OPP Forensic Identification Services, with the assistance of the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology Services.

Police say further updates will be provided “when they become available.”
