Police beat: Stolen vehicle

GUELPH/ERAMOSA – A Southgate woman has been charged after an officer on patrol was alerted to a stolen vehicle by the automated license plate recognition system that is now in all Wellington County OPP cruisers. 

On April 28 at about 4:30pm, an OPP officer was patrolling Wellington Road 6 when the system alerted them to a stolen passenger vehicle. 

Police say the vehicle was reported as stolen to the Dufferin OPP. 

Katelin Kingsbury, 27, of Southgate Township, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime (over $5,000). She is to appear in Guelph court on June 20.  

Job site theft

CENTRE WELLINGTON – On April 12, Wellington County OPP responded to a break-in at a job site on Wellington Road 7, north of Elora. 

Police say “tools were stolen and … a digital watch had been recovered at the scene.”

Police are asking anyone who may have lost or had a digital watch stolen to contact the Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

Cannabis charge

MINTO – On April 20 at about 12:30am, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped the driver of a blue SUV on Highway 9 here.

A 22-year-old driver from Ayton was charged with driving with cannabis readily available and is to appear in court at a later date.

Driving charges

WELLINGTON NORTH – On April 23 at about 10:30am, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped the driver of a black SUV on Wellington Road 109 here. 

A 39-year-old resident of St. John’s, Newfoundland was charged with driving a vehicle not equipped with an ignition interlock device, driving without a licence and failing to surrender a vehicle permit.

The defendant is to appear in Guelph court on July 19.
