WELLINGTON COUNTY – Local police laid three dozen charges during a four-day “back-to-school” safety campaign.
From Sept. 3 to 6, Wellington County OPP officers were “deployed to school zones throughout the county and conducted a high-visibility, zero tolerance, enforcement initiative with the goal of complete child pedestrian safety in mind.” Police say they targeted “anything that could put a child’s life and well-being at risk.”
The OPP laid 35 charges during the safety blitz, which police say “preserved” student safety.
Driver charged
PUSLINCH – Police have now charged a Brampton man in connection with a train-dump truck collision here last month.
On Aug. 14 emergency crews responded to the crash on Concession Road 7 in Puslinch.
“It was reported that a west bound train and a north bound dump-truck had collided,” police stated in a press release.
The driver of the dump truck, Harman Singh Pabla, 25, of Brampton, has been charged with disobeying a traffic sign and careless driving. He is to appear in Guelph court on Oct. 16.
Balls stabbed
FERGUS – Police are looking for help to find the person(s) responsible for damaging property at JD Hogarth Public School here.
On Sept. 9 Wellington County OPP were informed that “sometime over the weekend unknown suspects entered onto the school property and damaged the tether balls outside by stabbing them with a knife or another sharp object.”

Drug charges
MOUNT FOREST – On Sept. 8 at about 8:50am Wellington County OPP officers responded to a report of a pick-up truck idling on Durham Street East for about two hours.
Police say officers located the vehicle “and woke-up the driver, who was sleeping behind the wheel.”
Bryce Johnathon Shaw, 20, of Grey Highlands, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession over 30g of dried cannabis (or equivalent) in a public place and possession of one or more cannabis plants in a public place. He is to appear in Guelph court on Oct. 11.
OPP: lock it up
WELLINGTON COUNTY – Wellington County OPP officials say police receive reports daily about thefts from unlocked vehicles.
“This is a crime of opportunity and occurs throughout the entire county,” states an OPP press release.
“To help prevent future incidents, the OPP would like to remind everyone about the ‘Lock it or lose it’ campaign … that reminds the public to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables and keys from within.
Police say, “This helps reduce the motivation and likelihood of property crimes. If you do suspect that your vehicle has been entered please report it.”

Careless driving
PERTH EAST – On Sept. 9 at about 7pm, Perth emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle crash on Perth Line 44, west of Gads Hill.
Perth County OPP officials say the male driver of a sedan that left the road and collided with a tree was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Joshua Marston, 24, of Fergus, was charged with careless driving.
Car fire, drug charges
PILKINGTON – A Fergus man faces multiple charges after emergency crews were called to a vehicle fire here.
On Aug. 11 at about 3am crews were called to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of 2nd Line and Sideroad 4 near Elora.
Police say the vehicle left the road, struck the ditch and caught fire. The lone occupant was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Brendan William Fleming, 34, of Fergus, was charged with driving while suspended, possession of crystal meth for the purpose of trafficking and two counts of possession of a controlled substance (meth and cocaine).
He was to appear in Guelph court on Sept. 10.
Drug charges at RIDE
PUSLINCH – On Aug. 12 at about 11pm, Wellington County OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program on Gore Road here near Cambridge.
Police say officers spoke to the driver of a grey sedan, detected the odour of suspected cannabis and found suspected crystal methamphetamine on the driver.
Samantha Francine Plouffe-Cachon, 28, of Kitchener, was charged with possession of a Schedule I substance (meth) and driving without insurance. She is to appear in Guelph court on Sept. 20.
More drugs at RIDE
PUSLINCH – On Aug. 12 at about 10pm, Wellington County OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program on Gore Road here.
Police say officers spoke to the driver of a black pickup who was unable to provide registration or proof of insurance. Officers also found suspected methamphetamine in the vehicle.
Rachel Rebecca Doig, 29, of Cambridge, was charged with possession of a Schedule I substance (meth), theft under $5,000, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, driving without insurance, driving while suspended, failing to surrender a vehicle permit and using unauthorized plates. She is to appear in Guelph court on Sept. 17.
Steroids at RIDE
PUSLINCH – On Aug. 22 at about 11pm, Wellington County OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program on Gore Road here near Cambridge.
Police say officers spoke to the driver of a brown pickup truck and observed a quantity of suspected illicit drugs.
David Paniagula Roncero, 31, of Cambridge, was charged with illegally obtaining a Schedule IV substance (anabolic steroids) and failing to comply with a probation order. He is to appear in Guelph court on Sept. 27.
