Police beat: Fergus man charged in recent residential break-in

ELORA – A Fergus man has been charged in connection with a recent residential break-in here.

On March 24, Wellington County OPP received a report of a break-in that had occurred overnight at a house in Elora.  Police say “video footage of the incident was provided to officers.”

Phil Jacques, 40, of Fergus, was charged with breaking into a house to commit an indictable offence. He is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

“The Wellington OPP would like to thank the members of the public that assisted in identifying the accused,” police stated.

Another break-in

PUSLINCH – Police have charged an Etobicoke man in connection with a break-in here last week.

On March 27 at about 1am, Wellington County OPP received a report that a white van had entered the ditch on Forestell Road in Puslinch and the driver fled the scene. 

“A second report indicated that a residence near the location of the ditched vehicle was entered and property from the home was missing,” police stated.

Sean Robert Roxburgh, 39, of Etobicoke, was charged with breaking into a dwelling or house and driving while prohibited. He is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Pair charged in drug bust

GUELPH – A Guelph man and Campbellville woman have been charged after police here seized $75,000 in cocaine and other drugs last week.

“Members of the Guelph Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit began an investigation into a male resident trafficking controlled substances,” Guelph Police stated in an April 1 press release. “Officers stopped a motor vehicle in the city’s south end just before 5pm [on March 31] and arrested a male and female inside.”

Police say the vehicle and two addresses in Guelph were searched and the following items were seized: 570g of cocaine, with  an estimated street value of  $57,050; 160g of MDMA (ecstasy, estimated street value $15,990; 351g of cannabis, estimated street value $3,515; $1,944 in Canadian currency; a 2014 luxury sedan; 9mm ammunition; and drug paraphernalia.

A Guelph man, 21, and Campbellville woman, 20, are each charged with two counts of possessing controlled substances for the purposes of trafficking and trafficking in cocaine. The man is also charged with possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling. He was held for a bail hearing and the woman is to appear in Guelph court on May 20. (Guelph Police do not provide the names of those charged with crimes).

Truck driver charged

ERIN – Police have charged a truck driver from Maple with several safety infractions.

On March 29 at about 10am, a Wellington County OPP officer stopped a semi-tractor trailer hauling a loaded car carrier on Sideroad 17 in Erin. 

Mark Barak, 59, of Maple, was charged with dangerous driving, failing to accurately complete a daily inspection,  failing to complete a daily inspection report,  having an insecure load, overweight vehicle, failing to wear a seatbelt and five counts of overweight on axle. 

He is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
