GUELPH/ERAMOSA – No one was seriously injured but there was quite a mess to clean up after a dump truck rolled over here last week.

Wellington County OPP officials say emergency crews responded to the scene at 6th Line and Wellington Road 124 near Brucedale on Sept. 16 at about 12:15pm.

Police say initial reports indicated that a dump-truck had rolled, “spilling approximately 14 tons of earth.”

The driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and the cause of the collision is being investigated.

Theft from business

MOUNT FOREST – On Sept. 15, Wellington County OPP responded to a report of a theft at a business on King Street West here.

“Video footage of the incident was provided to officers, and the person involved was identified,” police stated in a press release.

On Sept. 16, the OPP responded to a report of a person entering a vehicle on Birmingham Street West in Mount Forest.

“Later, a second call was received reporting that a suspicious person appeared to be checking for unlocked vehicles on Durham Street West, Mount Forest,” police stated. “Officers arrived on scene and located the person in a vehicle that was later determined to be stolen.”

Skylar Gilbert, 27, of Wellington North, was charged with theft under $5,000, failing to comply with undertaking and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Trailer stolen

CONN – Wellington County OPP officials are investigating the theft of a cargo trailer here. 

Police say that sometime overnight between Sept. 16 and 17, someone stole a white 2022 seven-by-14 foot double-axle Darkhorse cargo trailer from an address on Highway 89 in Conn.

The trailer has a Darkhorse logo on the front right panel and a checkered flag sticker on the rear left.

Driving, mischief charges

NORTH PERTH – A Wallenstein teen has been charged after allegedly losing control of a vehicle and colliding with two parked cars here.  

On Sept. 19 just after 1am, a Perth County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on Line 86 and Road 140 in North Perth.

“The officer observed the vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed and driving dangerously,” police stated in a press release. “The officer also observed the vehicle lose control in a turn, colliding with two stationary vehicles.” Police say no injuries were reported.

A Wallenstein man, 18, was charged with dangerous driving and mischief (destroy or damage property). He is to appear in Stratford court at a later date.

Ran a red light

FERGUS – Police have charged a Brampton driver they say ran a red light here, causing a collision.

On Sept. 12, Wellington County OPP responded to a crash between a sedan and a commercial vehicle at the intersection of Gartshore Street and Garafraxa Street in Fergus.

The driver of the transport truck, a 47-year-old from Brampton, was charged with running a red light and was issued a ticket.

No licence, no plate

FERGUS – On Sept. 8 a Wellington County OPP officer was conducting patrols and observed a black coupe with no front licence plate on St. Andrew Street here.

A 24-year-old Fergus driver was charged with driving without a licence, failing to display two plates, driving with no muffler and driving without insurance. The defendant is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.

Safety blitz charges

ERIN – On Sept. 15 police officials organized a commercial vehicle safety inspection blitz in the town of Erin. 

Officers with the Wellington County OPP, Guelph Police, Halton Police, Ministry of Transportation and Ministry of Finance all participated in the blitz. 

“Approximately 57 commercial motor vehicles were inspected, 19 commercial vehicles were placed out of service and approximately 53 charges were laid,” police stated in a press release. “The collaboration and efforts of these various community partners illustrates their dedication to keeping our roadways safe.”
