Palmerston woman charged with arson in fires on White’s Junction Trail

MINTO – Police have charged a Palmerston woman with arson in connection with two fires on White’s Junction Trail here.

There have been many suspicious fires over the past three years on or near the trail close to Palmerston.

On Feb. 4, Wellington County OPP announced charges in two of those fires: a tire fire on April 11, 2020 and another fire on June 2, 2021.

Both fires were set near Wellington Road 5 and in both cases Minto firefighters extinguished the fires at a cost of approximately $3,000 per fire, police say.

Amber Lyn Somerville, 28, of Palmerston, was charged with two counts of arson and is to appear in Guelph court at a later date.
