Overhaul is great News

The cenotaph in Rockwood has served its community well. Plans to overhaul the location and make it more accessible will make its service to the community even better.

For that we thank Guelph-Eramosa Township council and its staff for pursuing funding from the federal government.

Wellington-Halton Hills MP Michael Chong came through with dollars from the Ministry of Veteran Affairs on the order of $33,060, which is roughly half the estimated cost.

Canadians owe much to veterans. This is typically a federal issue so it only seems proper to honour the fallen with dignity by maintaining cenotaphs with pride and care across the country.

The cities, towns and townships, in this case Guelph-Eramosa, know what the community needs and are able to work locally to make such a project happen.

Watching councils contort themselves and go into hock for very large projects has always been a sore spot with us, but we see this type of project as a perfect example of shared responsibilities being met in a good partnership. It’s good to see a plan come together.
