Organic harvest feast offered on Sept. 12

The sixth annual Organic Harvest Feast is on Sept. 12 at Loyola House, on the grounds of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre here.

“The crops at Ignatius are abundant even with the cool summer,” said Heather Lekx, community shared agriculture farmer and this year’s emcee. “The farmers and interns are looking forward to providing all of the organic produce for the feast.”

Guests will have the opportunity to bid on items donated to the silent auction, followed by a seven course dinner.

“We are delighted to have Cathy Hansen as our guest speaker for this year’s feast” said director of operations at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre Lisa Calzonetti.

“Cathy is a Canadian Red Seal chef and owner of Bernway Farm, near Erin, the longest-running community shared agriculture farm serving the Guelph area.”

Her focus at the feast will be an ecosystem approach to creating a sustainable food system.

Cocktails will begin at 5pm with dinner served at 6pm. Live entertainment will be provided by the Swell Billies. Tickets are $90 each and are available by contacting Miriam Koopman at 519-824-1250 extension 250 or administration@ignatiusguelph.ca.

The fundraising event helps to support the work of the Ignatius Jesuit Centre of Guelph; home to Loyola House Retreat and Training Centre, the Ecology Project, the Ignatius Farm CSA and the Plant an Old Growth Forest Project.
