OPP investigating after Pride decorations targeted by vandals

WELLINGTON COUNTY – The OPP is investigating after several Pride flags and decorations were damaged or destroyed recently in Perth and Wellington counties.

“Between [June 1 and 13], a number of Pride decorations and flags have been destroyed at schools, on streets and at a business,” states a June 14 Wellington County OPP press release.

Police say they are investigating “a rash of mischiefs,” including:

  • on June 4 at about 10pm, someone damaged several Pride ribbons on light standards on Main Street in Palmerston;
  • on June 12 at about 11pm, someone damaged a Pride flag at a business on Mitchell Street South in Listowel and a Pride flag at a school in Listowel;
  • sometime between June 10 and 13, someone damaged Pride flags at schools in Drayton, Moorefield and Harriston; and
  • on June 13, police received a report that someone damaged pride ribbons on light standards in both Palmerston and Harriston.
