OPP: impaired driver tried to evade police

GUELPH – An Erin man faces numerous charges after trying to evade police while he was allegedly impaired.

On Nov. 13 at about 11:30pm a Wellington County OPP officer observed a damaged, beige sedan being driven on Victoria Road South near Clair Road in the City of Guelph.

“The vehicle’s engine was smoking and its deflated tires were casting sparks on to the highway,” police stated in a press release. “When officers intervened the driver attempted to evade police but was cornered on a ‘dead-end’ street.” Police say the driver attempted to resist arrest but was apprehended and brought to a local OPP station for testing.

Lovepreet Singh Dhesi, 23, of Erin, was charged with impaired driving,  driving with more than 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood in his system, flight from police, dangerous driving, resisting arrest, failing to remain at the scene of a collision and using unauthorized plates. He is to appear in Guelph court on Dec. 17.

The driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days.
