WRIGHT, Maureen Anne (nee MacNab)

March 14, 1939 - December 31, 2020

It is with great sadness that the family of Maureen Anne Wright announce her passing on December 31, 2020. Predeceased by her beloved husband Hector Wright (2013), her parents Lorraine (Greavette) and Ronald MacNab, and her brother Ned MacNab. Survived by her children Anne Kathryn Wright and Thomas Charles Wright (Laura), granddaughter Alison Wright, and brothers Charles MacNab (Elizabeth) and Robin MacNab (Jennifer). Maureen was born in Gravenhurst, Ontario on March 14, 1939. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario and worked at hospitals in Toronto, including Sick Kids. She met Hector in Gravenhurst and they married in 1961. She left work to raise her kids, during which time the family lived in Willowdale, Edmonton and Thornhill. When the kids were older, Maureen rejoined the workforce, resuming work as a nurse at Carefree Lodge in North York until her retirement in 1999. They retired to Elora, Ontario in 2000, where they made some wonderful new friends and neighbours. Maureen was a very doting grandma, and thoroughly enjoyed the time she spent with Alison, sewing dolls clothes, packing boxes each year for Operation Christmas Child and playing the ukulele together. She was a proud Ringette grandma, ringing her bell at as many of Alison’s games as she could. Maureen held many strong friendships with people she met or worked with. She maintained these friendships for decades, even after moving away or retiring. She enjoyed cheering on the Blue Jays, including at their very first home opener on a snowy day in April 1977 at Exhibition Stadium. Time spent with the family in Algonquin Park created many treasured memories. Dining out with the family was something she took great pleasure in, most especially at The Octagon. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will occur sometime in the future. Donations in her memory can be made to Heart and Stroke, Groves Memorial Hospital or the charity of your choice.
