WRIGHT, Mabel Irene ‘Renee’

recently of London, at the age of 100, passed away peacefully, at Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus, Ontario, on Monday, January 13, 2020. Renee is survived by siblings Doreen, Maureen and Brian, sister-in-law Alice, sons Kenneth, Allan (Jill), Bob (Arlene) and daughter-in-law Maureen (Brian). She leaves behind seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Renee was predeceased by her husband Albert (1991), and siblings Arthur, Rosie, Ellen, and Pauline. Renee was a gracious, mild mannered and very resilient women. She was born in Lancashire England in 1919. She survived bombings during World War II contributing to the war effort by working in a munitions factory and being an Air Raid Warden. Renee, her husband Albert and family struck out to start a new life in Canada in 1959 leaving all that was familiar behind. Her greatest battle however, was overcoming breast cancer in the late 60’s when cancer treatments were few and chance of survival poor. Her survival is a tribute to the development of the Cobalt Radiation Machine at St. Joseph’s Hospital, London at that time. These trials gave Renee a real zest for life. She always had time to talk to family and friends wanting to know what they were doing and where they have been. She was a seasoned traveller and an accomplished seamstress and gardener. She would spend hours tending her flower beds which overflowed with colour all season long. A wonderful sister, mother, aunt, great aunt, nan and grand nan, she will truly be missed. A Celebration of Renee’s life was held at the Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, Ontario, January 20, 2020, interment at Woodland Cemetery. The family sincerely thanks Dr. Oh, his colleagues and the dedicated nursing staff of Groves Memorial Hospital for their compassion and kindness in the care of Renee. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Groves Memorial Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, Fergus, Ontario or St. Joseph’s Hospital, London, Ontario.
