Peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of family, on Monday, June 2nd, 2025. Cherished husband of Gwen (Rundle) for 65 years—a testament to a life built on love, commitment, and faith. Devoted father to Dan, Kevin, John, and Ann-Marie (Manny). Proud grandfather to Kaitlyn, Brooke Goodfellow, and Erika (Rob) Boyes. His grand-puppies Tasha and Toby are left hungry for his treats. Predeceased by his parents, Ype Sytsma (1981) and Trijnije Schaafsma (1996), and his brothers, Jim (1986) and Hank (1996). Left to mourn are in-laws Joan Sytsma, Norma Sytsma, and Michael & Mila Rundle. Uncle Berney to Derrick (Judy) Sytsma and Rob (Suzanne) Sytsma. Berney was a dedicated auto teacher, and in retirement, he enjoyed restoring classic boats and vehicles. His quiet strength, steady presence, and warm sense of humor will be remembered by all. Visitation was held at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 280 St. David Street South in Fergus, on Thursday, June 5th, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 760 St. David Street North in Fergus, on Friday, June 6th, 2025, at 11:00am. A reception followed, with interment at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Elora, Ontario. As expressions of sympathy, the family asks to consider Groves Memorial Community Hospital or Aboyne Rural Hospice.
