With our hearts full of love we announce the passing of David Russell Sweeney, 69 of Fergus. Who passed away on September 14, 2022 peacefully while surrounded by family at The New Groves Hospital. Dave is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cathy Sweeney (Nixon). Cherished father of Tanya (Andre) and Trina (Chris). Beloved poppa of Emma, Andy, Sam and Charlie. Loving brother of Barb (Jim Kelly), Sharon “Timmy” (Tom Little), Joyce Sweeney and Bette (Jim Dennis) and mother in law Joan (Sharer) Nixon. He is fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and extended family. He is predeceased by his parents, Cliff and Nette (Cudney) Sweeney and his brother Doug and father in law Jack Nixon. Dave’s life revolved around his love for his family and was always bragging about his kids. Dave was a man of deep faith and had a great love for the church. Anyone who knew Dave, knew that he was true to himself and inspired others in his caring way. He touched so many people in ways he didn’t even realize. Dave was always willing to share funny stories with a twinkle in his bright blue eyes and with his infectious laugh. Mechanic by trade, he was lucky enough to never have to grow up. He said he never had to go to work but he got to play in the dirt everyday on his bulldozer. Our family lost a great man, but Heaven received another angel. Until we meet again. As per Dave’s request, the family visited, laughed and shared stories on September 18 2022 in the Butterfly Garden at St James Anglican Church.
