SAUNDERS, Alfred L “Lorne”

Of Owen Sound, formerly of Acton, passed away peacefully, in his 85th year, at Milton hospital on Dec. 23 2022 after a brief illness. The Master above has called home another master, to be with the love of his life and best friend Carol (2006). Lorne was predeceased by his wife Carol, parents Gladys & Alf and brothers Art & Ron. He is survived by his sisters Marg and Evelyn (Bert) of Guelph. He will be dearly missed by his sons, Al (Marilyn) and Clint (Lisa) and grandchildren, Ace, Vann, Leighton and Cheyanne. He will be remembered by his many nieces and nephews, several of whom spent a lot of time “at the farm, with Uncle Lorne.” Lorne was a strong quiet man who sat back and listened and learned long before he would speak. He was the master of “one liners” that could inspire you, make you laugh, or cut you off at the knees as we used to describe it. He spent many years farming in Erin township with his life partner Carol before illness forced them to retire to a “hobby” farm in Owen Sound. There, he continued to raise hogs and cattle and help the neighbours with milking and field work. Just this summer, at 84 years, he cut and processed 800 acres of hay for his good friend Gary, Lorne will be a great loss to him. Dad had a great love of the outdoors, animals and serenity, he has requested no funeral and cremation has taken place. There will be a small celebration of life at a later date, as he would say, “when the weather is better.” Condolences only please. If you wish, please make a donation to a charity of your choice, he would appreciate that.
