ROLFE, Joan

Dignified, honest, intelligent, passionate and loving are how Joan Rolfe will be remembered. On April, 6th, 2021 Joan Laura Rolfe, 91, wife of the late George Rolfe (2011) passed peacefully at Wellington Terrace, in Fergus, Ontario. Joan was born in Guelph to Norman and Laura (Smith) Agnew. She graduated from GCVI, and McMaster University with her Masters in English. Joan and George had three children, Thomas Agnew (Eva), Jane Elizabeth and John George Edward (Karen). Joan loved her nine grandchildren, Anthony, Caitlin, Meghan, Michael, Madeline, Evan, Cameron, Caitlan and Rachel and her four great grandchildren, Thomas, Ava, Meir, and Logan. Joan’s greatest joys were her children, grandchildren, her lifelong friends in Tillsonburg and Fergus, and serving her community. Joan had a passion for learning and travelling. She particularly enjoyed family gatherings, and visiting Tom, Jane and John and their families in the UK, Switzerland and the United States. Joan was a voracious reader, a gifted writer and a talented bridge player. Gardening and decorating were also her passions and her home always reflected this. In Joan’s twilight years she enjoyed time spent with her family and sister-in-law Joan Thompson who visited regularly. Joan was awarded Citizen of the Year by the Centre Wellington Chamber of Commerce which was a testament to how much her community meant to her and how much she meant to her community. Joan will be remembered for her tenacity, her passion and her sense of duty. For decades she devoted her time to charity supporting the Fergus Chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society and the Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus. Joan will also be remembered for her ability to challenge her children to achieve in both their personal and business lives. She was very proud of their accomplishments. Joan will forever be grateful for the outstanding care she received from the staff at the Wellington Terrace Care Home. In lieu of the opportunity to celebrate Joan’s life formally, a brief invite only memorial service will be held at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home Fergus, on Friday 9th April. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. The Memorial Service will be livestreamed beginning at 2:00pm on Friday, April 9, 2021.
