It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Peter Hettinga on June 6, 2025, at the age of 61. He is survived by his beloved wife and sweetheart, Nicki Hettinga, with whom he shared his life for 47 years; his daughter, Candace Hettinga (Greg Yerashotis); his son, Andrew Hettinga; his granddaughter, Lina Yerashotis; his brothers, John Hettinga (Hanne Hettinga), Jack Hettinga (Sylvia Peternel), and Paul Hettinga; his mother-in-law, Lina Ceroli; his brother-in-law, Carlo Ceroli (Camilla Ceroli); his nephews, William Ceroli (Jewl’yhana Ceroli) Samuel Ceroli (Keara Ceroli), Eric Hettinga, Christian Hettinga and Rients Hettinga; and his great neices, Rose Ceroli and Aurora Ceroli. Predeceased by his parents, Anneke and Rients Hettinga; and his father-in-law, Umberto Ceroli. Born in Utrecht, Netherlands, and raised in St. Catharines and Guelph, Peter made a lasting impact as the owner of Guelph Import Service. A skilled automotive technician and dedicated local business owner since 1988, Peter served his community with unwavering kindness, integrity, and dedication. Peter was a man everyone could count on—whether to fix a broken part, untangle a complicated situation, or offer a listening ear. He had a quiet charm and strength that many appreciated, peppered with a quick wit and a sometimes-wry sense of humour. Peter left us too soon. He lived with purpose, grace, and strength—and he accomplished more than most could dream of. In recent years, Peter and Nicki built a country home together, where they were enjoying an environmentally sustainable lifestyle. Peter valued nature, cycling, good food, and spending time with friends and family. His memory will remain a comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
