GIVLIN, Marie

January 3, 1939 - February 9, 2025

Genevieve Marie Givlin of Harriston passed away very peacefully at Birmingham Retirement Community, Mount Forest, on Sunday, February 9, 2025 in her 87th year.  Marie was born on January 3, 1939 in Dublin, Ontario, the daughter of the late Ambrose and Agnes (Flanagan) Givlin. Exceptionally loving mother of Sharon Dettman (Reval) of Clifford, Barbara MacDonald (Dale) of Brampton, Peggy Taylor (Paul) of Langley, B.C., and Steven Neilman (Cherylann) of Harriston.  She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Katie Weed (Patrick), Aaron Dettman (Natasha), Sarah Casey (Alex) and Ian MacDonald (Mala). Marie was a wonderful and proud great-grandmother to Andrew and Betsy Weed, Nora Casey and Ella MacDonald. Sister of Viola Moser (Harold), and sister-in-law of Frank Whaling. Marie will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her grandson Andrew Kenneth Dettman and by siblings Anna Nolan (Dennis), James Givlin (Rita), Margaret O’Brien (William), Teresa Laverty (Wilfred), Rita Mullin (Wilfred), Patrick Givlin, Sister Leona Givlin, Ursula Givlin, Rose Whaling, Joseph Givlin and John Givlin. Marie was always ready for a gathering, some games and fun, valuing time well spent with family and friends.  Her sewing capabilities were a wonderment, passing that skill onto her children. Prior to retirement, Marie worked in the food processing industry and a nursing home. Visitation will be held at the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Harriston on Saturday, February 15 at 11:00am. A reception for all will follow at the Harriston Legion. Spring interment in Harriston Cemetery. Special thanks to the truly amazing staff and residents of Birmingham Retirement Community, Dr. D. Gateman and the staff at Louise Marshall Hospital.  Donations in her memory may be made to Palmerston & District Hospital MRI Foundation. Online condolences may be left at www.hardyleefuneralhome.com
