Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Guelph, on Sunday, May 18, 2025. Elizabeth (Horwath) Cergoli, in her 101st year, was the beloved wife of the late Leopold Cergoli (2013). She was the loving mother of Maria and her husband Alex George. Elizabeth was the proud grandmother of Tracy Beirnes-Washington and her husband Bill and Kim Beirnes and her husband Rob and great-grandmother of William, Emma and Parker. Fondly remembered by Chris George and family. Elizabeth (Liz) cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. An avid gardener, she loved flowers of all kinds, especially carnations. Her heart was in the kitchen cooking and baking for family gatherings with meals that would never disappoint and was happiest when cooking for others (on many occasions large crowds at the Slovenian Assn Sava Club). Her grandchildren have fond memories of baking with her and getting messy in the kitchen making soup noodles and Liz was always up for the occasional shopping trip or visit to the casino with her daughter. She loved animals of all kinds and enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels near her apartment. In her younger days, she loved to travel and could dance circles around you, there wasn’t a polka that she wasn’t up for, dancing the night away. She will be dearly missed. Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at Our Lady Immaculate Mausoleum, Marymount Cemetery Guelph at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Guelph Humane Society or to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
