BYE, Kay

You’ll never know how good a moment was until it’s gone and when it’s gone what’s left is the best of memories that will be forever cherished. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of the heart of our family, Kay Marie Bye (nee. Flewelling) on January 15th, 2022. Just two months shy of her 86th birthday, she was fortunate to have shared 59 years of happiness and treasured moments with her husband, Lawrence. Kay was blessed with four opinionated daughters, Karen Moore (Peter), Sherry Elliott (Jacques), Lisa Bye, and Tracy Bye. She was the admired grandmother of Tiffany Shaw (Cole), Valerie Checkley (Dustin), Justin Moore, Joel Elliott, Quinton Elliott, and Damian Elliott. Over the past eight years, Kay had the opportunity to spoil her 5 great-grandchildren Dawson, Grayson, Brayleigh, Maisy, and Kaisley. She is survived by her sister Helen Boyles and two sister-in-laws, Lil Flewelling and Bev Flewelling. She is predeceased by her parents Levi and Dorothy Flewelling, four brothers and two sisters. Kay will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Kay knew how to light up a moment so that you would never forget it. She was exceptionally crafty and enjoyed years of baking, knitting and crocheting afghans, hats, and tablecloths for family and close friends. In retirement, her generous and compassionate nature shone bright through her volunteer hours and the many handmade teddy bears, sweaters, lap blankets, baby hats and clothes that she donated to hospitals and various charities. She will always be remembered by her golden rule: Don’t do as I do, but do as I say! A private family service was be held in the Heritage Funeral Home, Drayton. The service will be video taped and will be made available on the funeral home website below Kay’s notice on Friday, January 21, 2022. Interment Drayton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes Association, CMT Research Foundation, or the Drayton United Church.
