BLACK, Myrtle

September 25, 1916 - October 6, 2020

After celebrating her 104th birthday (September 25th) Myrtle passed away peacefully at Saint Luke’s Place in Cambridge on October 6, 2020. She is survived by her son Bill (Kathy) and daughter in-law Nancy. Beloved grandmother of Cara, James, Kendall and great grandmother to their families. Predeceased by husbands W. Leslie McFarlane (1945) and John N. Black (1985), her son James Robert, parents Russell and Maggie Smellie, sisters and brothers in-law Margaret & Jack Milligan, Lillian & Robert Baker, Rose & Paul Mosure.  Myrtle was a Fergus resident for the most part of her long life and a member of the Melville United Church community. She was actively involved in the Sweet Adelines, a member of The Order of the Eastern Star and always maintained an active interest in politics working for candidates then volunteering during elections. Well into her 90’s she enjoyed being at the family cottage on Lake Belwood. The family wish to express special thanks to all staff at Saint Luke’s Place for the tremendous care and comfort provided during her almost three years in residence. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Melville United Church or Groves Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Giddy Funeral Home & Chapel 280 St. David St. S. Fergus. Due to current health concerns a family service will be held at a future date.
