New season at Hillsburgh”™s Century Church Theatre

The award-winning Century Theatre Guild is launching  its new season at Century Church Theatre here on Sept. 12 with Sir Alan Ayckbourn’s comedy Relatively Speaking.

Directed by Norman Stell, this is one of the comedy master’s best-loved plays.  Ayckbourn is the second-most performed English-language playwright, surpassed only by Shakespeare.

He wrote this play in response to a request to produce something that would make people laugh when their summer holidays were ruined by rain and they came into the theatre to get dry.

He succeeded beyond the producer’s wildest dreams, and of his more than 70 hit shows, Relatively Speaking has proved one of the most popular, hailed by the public and critics alike as “a near masterpiece” provoking “gales of laughter.” It was recently remounted in London’s West End, to rave reviews.

Featured in the play are returning members Deb Huggins, Peter King and Wendy West, along with newcomer to the guild, Greg Allen.

The play runs Sept. 12 to 21, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2:30pm. The Pantry Shelf tea shop in Hillsburgh is offering a special three-course Sunday lunch at 1pm for $20 inclusive. This must be pre-booked along with tickets, and seating is limited. Theatre tickets are $20 inclusive, and may be reserved at 519-855-4586.
