New Octarine Women Artists’ Collective exhibit on now

ABOYNE – The public is invited to explore a world shaded in Octarine, the magical eighth colour of the spectrum and pigment of the imagination, officials say.

The exhibit at the Wellington County Museum and Archives highlights the work of the Octarine Women Artists’ Collective (OWAC), a group of eight Wellington County artists who formed in 2013.

Octarine: The Colour of Magic is the group’s sixth show together, featuring the work of current OWAC members Judy French, Carol Hughes, Kim Johnston, Jean Loney, Leslie Miles, Gail Root, M. Anne Smith and Susan Strachan Johnson.

The inspiration for the show comes from the late British sci-fi author Terry Pratchett, who described the colour octarine as a vibrant and enchanting mix of purple and green.

Using only these two colours, each artist interpreted a different subject using her own medium and style.

“The result is a diverse body of work that transports the viewer into a magical, octarine-hued world,” officials say.

The show is on now at the Wellington County Museum and Archives until Oct. 6.
