Movie and talk are part of Eating Disorder Awareness Week

To celebrate national Eating Disorder Aware­­ness Week, the Well­ing­ton Dufferin Guelph Eating Disorders Coalition hosts the annual event Faces of Recov­ery.

 

The panel of women and family members in recovery from an eating disorder takes place on Feb. 3 at Guelph’s Italian Canadian Club, at 135 Fer­guson Street, From 7 to 9pm.Admission is free, but donations to the coalition’s work will be accepted with thanks.

The coalition will sponsor a screening of the Darryl Roberts film, America the Beautiful on Feb. 4. The  documentary is the product of his five year journey exploring American’s obses­sion with physical per­fec­tion.

He examines who is affected by unattainable media im­ages that contributing to a rise of low self esteem, body dys­morphia, and eating dis­orders in young women and girls, the beauty industry’s big con­sumers. The screening is at the Bookshelf Cinema on Quebec Street and starts at 6:45pm. Admission is $10 of adults, $7 for students, and members.
