Mount Forest Fair celebrates 160 years of country living

MOUNT FOREST – Get ready to celebrate 160 years of country living at the Mount Forest Fair on Aug. 17.

The executive and directors of the Mount Forest Agricultural Society invite visitors to be a part of this year’s celebration.

Agricultural society president Dan Browning reports
“due to an out break of strangles which is a very contagious condition that only affects horses, the Mount Forest ag society has cancelled all horse competitions at this year’s fair.”

Browning adds, “We still have a full slate of family activities. See you at the fair on Aug. 17.”

The long list of events will keep everyone in the family entertained for the day.

The prelude to the fair of course is the Mount Forest Ambassador of the Fair Competition at the Mount Forest Sportsplex on Aug. 10 at 7pm. ​Doors opens at  6:30pm.

In addition, there are competitions for Princess/Prince of the Fair, Junior Ambassador of the Fair and Prince Charming and Little Miss Sweetheart.

Aug. 16

The fair weekend begins with exhibit drop off Aug. 16 from 4 to 7pm. Register at the agricultural society office.

The exhibits will close for judging at 7:30pm with viewing on Aug. 17 from 10:30am to 5pm.

Aug. 17

At 10:30am catch children’s entertainer Cindy Cook from Polka Dot Door  followed by the Birds of Prey show at 11am.

Jungle Justin’s Reptile Show begins at 11:45am. A second performance is at 3:30pm.

Pony rides will be on site between noon and 2:30pm.

Meanwhile Cindy Cook returns for an encore performance at 12:30pm.

Depending on your preference, the baby show and the pet show both begin at 1pm.

A second Birds of Prey Show is at 2pm.

At 4pm family fun games include a three-legged race, egg race, potato sack race and money bale.

Throughout the day there will be the balloon lady, puppet show and a free kids zone including bouncy castles, games, face painting and more. In addition there will be will be showings of sheep and alpacas throughout the day. Exhibit pick up is Aug. 17 at 5pm.
