Moorefield driver charged after cyclist hit by vehicle

MAPLETON – A Moorefield resident has been charged with careless driving after a cyclist was struck by a vehicle here last week.

On Aug. 23 at about 6am, emergency crews responded to the collision on Wellington Road 8 in Mapleton Township.

Wellington County OPP officials say the cyclist “was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life altering injuries.”

A 30-year-old from Moorefield was charged with careless driving.

“The Wellington OPP would like to remind all drivers to pay attention to cyclists while driving, especially during the early morning hours and late afternoon when it is darker outside,” police stated in a press release. “Cyclists are also reminded that they must have a light on their bicycle and are encouraged to wear reflective gear.”
