Modified Harriston-Minto fair features bale animals, beef diner

Who let the cows out? – A Who Let the Cows Out? Town Tour was among the events at the Harriston-Minto Agricultural Society’s modified fall fair. For a donation to the fair participants could have a herd of cows planted on a someone’s lawn. Dorelene and Doug Anderson, both long past directors of the local fair, awoke to find the travelling herd on their lawn on Sept. 18. The cows came dressed to celebrate Dorelene’s birthday, courtesy of some members of her family.

Fair organizers also let out some round bale animals around town.

The Harriston Arena was a busy spot during the society’s annual roast beef dinner. The barbecue dinner typically ends off a fall fair weekend in September but this year hungry residents purchased tickets and participated in a drive-through format. Society member and “home craft” president Samantha Gibson said over 300 meals were sold with funds going toward the society’s needs, like a recently-installed barn roof, and to plan for what Gibson anticipates will be a “huge” fall fair next year.
