Métis fiddlers to perform with Suzuki String School students

GUELPH – Métis fiddlers Alyssa and Danton Delbaere-Sawchuk of Oméigwessi will join Suzuki String School of Guelph (SSSG) students on stage at the River Run Centre in a special performance on Dec. 4 at 3pm.

The concert is called Celebrate! Sharing Our Music.

Oméigwessi [Oh-may-EEG-whe-say] is an ensemble specializing in performing Indigenous fiddle and traditional Métis music.

“Thanks to a grant from the Guelph Community Foundation Musagetes Fund, our students and teachers had the opportunity to learn the basics of the Métis fiddling tradition over the course of several workshops with the Delbaere-Sawchuks this fall,” artistic director Carmen Evans states in a press release.

“Alyssa and Danton’s performance with our students on Dec. 4 is the culmination of that work.”

“Your toes will be tapping, and your heart will be warmed by the sound of SSSG’s amazing group of musicians celebrating how music connects us all,” officials state.

Billed as “pure cuteness” and not to be missed will be a short performance by this fall’s new beginners ages three to six.

“Prepare to be delighted and amazed by our young musicians performing with confidence and enthusiasm,” says Evans.

“This concert will be perfect for the young and the young at heart to reconnect with a sense joy, hope and community through beautiful music.”
