Mapleton lifts ban on large fires

Residents required to obtain a permit for larger fires - and to follow all bylaws and safety precautions

MAPLETON – The open air burn ban introduced over two months ago has been lifted in Mapleton Township.

The municipality announced the end of the ban on June 11.

“Fire Chief Rick Richardson has decided that large burns will once again be permitted and the Township of Mapleton will start processing burn notifications starting today, June 11,” states the township press release.

Officials say the move was made in response to the province’s June 8 announcement that Wellington County is included in one of the regions that will move to stage two of Ontario’s COVID-19 reopening plan, effective June 12.

Mapleton issued an open air burn ban on April 3. It applied to fires over two metres by two metres in size, but not to smaller recreational/backyard fires.

Residents are reminded to follow all bylaws and safety precautions – and burn permits are required for larger fires.

Notifications must be submitted to the township by 4pm the day prior to burning and approval must be received prior to burning.

That means June 12 is the first possible day that open-air burning is permitted in Mapleton.

To fill out a burn notification or for more information, visit the township website or call 519-638-3313.
